Taxi is the quickest and most convenient way of travelling round the city. Taking a taxi in Riga is to travel in comfort and obtain information about location of the object you are interested in, customs and traditions, good shopping places, etc.
Taxis are easily recognizable by lighted roof signs and special yellow plates starting from TX. Taxis should be equipped with taximeters. In a taxi always make sure the meter is actually running. You will avoid unpleasant surprises if you don't make use of services offered by owners of private cars, the latter having no lighted roof signs.
The official fee is till 0,50 Ls/km during the day(Approximately 0,71 Euro per km). The embarkation charge is till Ls 1,50. (Approximately 2,13 Euro). Taxis can almost always be found, day or night, in front of the Hotel de Rome, near the "Laima" clock, in front of the Hotel Riga, near the Opera house and also from other part of Old Town at the cab stand on Grēcinieku Street of Strelnieku Square.
